What Katie Wore: A Love Letter to the Blanket Coat

Written by Neide on February 11 2016

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we think it only appropriate that we pen a love letter to our new favorite combo item – The Blanket Coat.

As with anything that combines two things we love into one (here’s looking at you McGriddle – yes, we said it), we don’t need much convincing to jump on the bandwagon and start organizing campaign events.  Hence this letter declaring our admiration and obsession with outwear that bears any resemblance to a throw.

Essentially a warm wrap-around blanket with sleeves, the blanket coat melds couch time with chic outerwear, thereby making it the most amazing thing to hit our closet since the Snuggie. It’s not as complicated as a poncho or a cape(which we also love but, let’s be honest, can be a bit difficult to wear without looking like you actually walked off the couch and out into the universe) and has a more chic aesthetic with that tinge of added structure.

Blanket coat, we love you.

We would venture to say that we all need a blanket coat in our lives, if only to wear on those days when the winter wind makes leaving the comfort of your sofa seem like the most unbearable of events.  It’s in these moments of desperation we need those wooly folds wrapped around us the most.

This one is from Zara (meaning, it’s likely no longer available), but we recently saw something similar at Expressand, if you want to splurge, have been lusting after this onefrom DVF. We also love the striped pattern on this guy (not to mention its under $50 sale price).

Katie Cassidy On Laurel’s Future, Getting Back With Oliver, And The Grave.

Written by owner on January 28 2016

And here is part three of ComicBook.com interview with Katie, This one is about What’s coming up for Laurel and who is in the grave.

Katie Cassidy has been an essential part of Team Arrow since the earliest days of the show. Her Laurel Lance has not only dated the Arrow himself but she has risen to show off her own form of heroics and mentored her sister down a similar path.

CB: Do you think we might ever, before the show’s end, see Laurel and Oliver get back together?
KC: I don’t know. It’s television, anything can happen. I definitely think there’s space for it, and room for it, if that were to happen. I don’t know what would happen to Laurel and Felicity’s friendship. I don’t know. I have no idea. Again, it’s television, and if they decide to go for that, awesome.

During the Arrow/Flash crossover, when you were reading the script for that, this is probably a while back for you, but what was your thought when you got to the script page that just said, ‘And now everybody dies’?
I didn’t really … It’s funny because, I guess if we weren’t shooting … With the crossover, I was shooting episode 7, 8, 9 and 10, while we were shooting episode 7. So I was actually shooting scenes from four episodes, and so I knew, obviously, that that wasn’t the case. I wasn’t too worried about it. However, reading the crossover script, I remember reading it and just being like, oh my God, how the hell are we doing to do this? It’s huge.

Getting through it … I think everyone got sick during this, because it takes so much time and energy, and what we do, you can’t really explain it to anyone, you kind of have to be it. It’s definitely exhausting, but I have to say, 100% fulfilling and well worth it, because the fans love it so much, and obviously, we like to make them happy. It does make our job that much easier, to go in every day knowing that people are responding to it and loving it. We’re having so much fun, and the fact that people watch, and have so much fun watching it, it makes it all worth it. Having said that, we’re definitely excited when we get through it, and we’re back to our normal schedule.
We’re like, boom! I don’t know how we just did that, but now back to … It’s not as hectic, and not everyone’s sick and shooting four episodes all at once. It’s all good.

Speaking of that response from people, I’ll tell you something. Every time I talk to anybody who’s in movies, TV shows, I put out a call for questions on Twitter, and when I put out the call for questions with this interview, I think it was hands-down the biggest response I’ve ever seen. You guys definitely get that response.
Oh, really? That’s awesome. We have an amazing fan base. Most loyal, good fan base. They’re comic book fans, and, you know, respect. Awesome.

Agreed. Anyway! In the midseason premiere, Laurel found out about Quentin and Donna’s little romance. What are her thoughts on her father dating someone, let alone Donna Smoak, which, she does find out in tonight’s premiere?
I think she’s definitely caught off-guard when she sort of walks into it, when she’s not expecting it. I also, having said that, believe that she’s really happy for her father. As hard as it is to see your father with another woman, who isn’t your mother, I think that Laurel is mature enough to handle it, and strong enough to handle it, especially it being Felicity’s mother … Laurel loves Felicity, and they’re friends. I think that it’s kind of good for her. She’s going to see it for what it is, and be supportive of whatever makes her father happy.

Awesome. My two final questions here, what can you tease about the future of Laurel Lance’s story line? And do you know who’s in the grave?
Well, the thing that I thought was so great about this year, and continue to do so, is that we see Laurel a lot stronger, and along with fighting when she goes out there as The Black Canary, we see her more polished, we see her more … professional. She’s in training, and fighting. I feel as if she’s become a lot stronger emotionally as well. I think that continues to go that direction. I feel like she’s the backbone for a lot of these characters, and she tries to see the best in people, and she is a strong woman, and I love that. I think that we continue to see more of that. I think you’ll see someone come along who you don’t necessarily expect Laurel to embrace, and she does. Having said that, that’s all I can tell you.

Interesting.
There’s a lot of ups and downs. I don’t know what’s going to happen at the end of the season, but up to where we’re at, I think it’s cool to see somebody overcome so much, and go through such pain, and to come out the other end.

Cool, cool. And finally, does Katie Cassidy know who’s in the grave?
Katie does not know who’s in the grave, no.

Oh, wow! They keep you in the dark.
I don’t know!

Well, let’s hope it’s not you!
You know, it’s television, but I certainly hope it’s not me either.

Katie Cassidy 5 Things to Do Today

Written by owner on January 25 2016

5 Things to Do Today got to sit down with Katie and ask her five questions

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE HIGHLIGHTS IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR OUT OF EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE?
I’m so grateful for every opportunity, but I have to say Arrow has been quite the journey. We have a fantastic cast and crew, people who have become family to me and forever will be. We’ve had some amazing experiences I will never forget.

WITH A BUSY SCHEDULE HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME?
Time management continues to be a work in progress. I’m sorry the turn around on these questions wasn’t faster!!

HOW DO YOU KEEP FIT AND HEALTHY WHEN TRAVELLING WITH YOUR WORK?
To be honest, It’s really tough. I workout often, but giving your body days off is important as well as a clean diet.

WHAT THINGS DO YOU FIND THE HARDEST ABOUT BEING SUCCESSFUL ACTRESS IN THE MEDIA EYE?
I like my privacy, but sometimes my life can feel somewhat intruded upon.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO PREPARE FOR EACH ROLE?
It depends on the role. I usually like to spend a few weeks prepping, but some character developments require more time. It differs.

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE MOST DIFFICULT THING ABOUT BEING ON SET?
The night shoots. It tough when you don’t get off work until 5 or 6am, but I’m used to it by now.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A YOUNG PERSON THAT WANTS TO ACT AND BE SUCCESSFUL?
Work hard pays off. Stay focused and believe in yourself. Never stop learning and developing your craft.

Katie Cassidy Describes Laurel’s Encouraging Goodbye To Sara

Written by owner on January 25 2016

ComicBook.com has post part two of its interview with Katie, This time talking about her time on LOT and her goodbye to Sara.

On last night’s Legends of Tomorrow premiere, Laurel Lance had to once again part ways with her beloved sister Sara. Luckily for them both, Sara wasn’t dying this time around. Instead, she was heading off on a noble cause with the new Legends team to save the world.

“I don’t look at that scene between Laurel and Sara in Legends as a goodbye scene,” Cassidy explains. “I actually look at that scene as introducing her and supporting her into her next chapter of her life. I don’t look at it as a goodbye scene, I look at it as more of … It’s opening a whole new world for her, kind of sending her off and through … I look at it as a very positive, honest, opening a lot of doors for her, and supporting her and encouraging her.”

That’s where the White Canary costume comes in. It was time to get out of the darkness, like many Arrow characters are struggling to do, and see the light. “Sara introduces her, gives her the idea, and says, you know, ‘You don’t need to be all your dark things. You don’t need to be a dark person,'” Cassidy says. “She’s like, ‘I have a lot of darkness inside me as well,’ since her … that doesn’t make you who you are. You can do what Oliver’s done. You can be the light, and this hero that I know that you are. People look up to you, and you’re doing good. You need to embrace that, and then Laurel introduces the White Canary suit to Sara. As far as, ‘be the light’, is basically what she says. I look at it more of like, sort of presenting a new chapter in her life, and journey, and more of a positive thing.”

Arrow’s Katie Cassidy On Laurel’s Future & Sparring With Oliver

Written by owner on January 22 2016

Last night, ComicBook.com had the chance to speak with the Black Canary herself, Arrow actress Katie Cassidy, ahead of her Heroes & Villains Fan Fest appearance in New Jersey this weekend.

As Cassidy put it, Arrow has “an amazing fanbase. The most loyal, good fanbase.” A pretty big fanbase, too, I might add, which earned the show some solid ratings in its return. Nevertheless, we both agreed to respect the fan base and take a get a few of their questions answered before anything else.

Will we see her and Oliver sparring/training this season? Will we see Laurel as a lawyer again? Thank you! x
“Absolutely. You will have a chance to see Laurel and Oliver training together, and I hope that there will be more,” Cassidy says of Laurel and Oliver training together, “One of my favorite scenes, actually, I recently thought.”
As for the second half of Brooke Daviz’s question, Cassidy had another confirmation. “Yes to the other question,” she says. “There’s definitely more of both of them.”
So, more of Laurel and Oliver sparring ahead and back to the court rooms, as well!

Can she tease what’s next for #LaurelLance’s story line?
“Well, the thing that I thought was so great about this year, and continue to do so, is that we see Laurel a lot stronger, and along with fighting when she goes out there as the Black Canary, we see her more polished, we see her more … professional,” Cassidy says about Laurel’s future. “She’s in training, and fighting. Having said that, that’s all I can tell you.”
