The best kept secret of the stars… you can have an A-List bod just like them! Last night I caught up with actress Katie Cassidy (she’s been on Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and more) at Under Armour’s editor event to chat about how she stays in shape, and her favorite workout routine doesn’t involve a trainer! Her behind-the-scene stay-fit secret…

Yoga and running!

“I try to do everything, and change it up because doing the same routine gets so boring, but I do a lot of yoga, Vinyasa flow,” Katie said before jumping into the Drenched workout NYC-based trainer Keoni Hudoba was teaching at the event. Katie even tested out Aerobarre, the fusion workout that combos boxing and ballet, for SELF! Check her out doing the moves!

“What you put into is what you get out. I do a lot of core work and cardio. I used to run a lot more than I do know but my hip stared hurting and my IT band, so doing yoga along with that and stretching your body, elongating your muscles has sort of helped out.”

Forget sounds of Enya, Katie wants her yoga instructor to be the next hot club DJ. “I wish that the music was pumping. I like yoga but I want to sweat at the same time, so I enjoy classes that are playing good music. It makes it fun.” Her playlist wish: Anything Rihanna and “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. (You heard it here first, “Club Yoga” is going to be the new thing.)

And when it comes to staying fit, Katie’s a realist (which is quite refreshing). “Every time I got to the gym I want to give 140 percent and it’s just not going to happen, and that’s ok. Don’t try to push yourself to your limit every single day.”

Her must-have gym bag stash is a change of clothes. “It’s terrible walking out of the gym and feeling wet and gross.”

undefined Monte Carlo star Katie Cassidy said she always wanted to marry Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 24-year-old admitted the actor was her childhood celebrity crush and she finally got the chance to meet him recently (not true Kaite meet him when she was little).

She said to OK!: ‘Oh, Leonardo DiCaprio. Ever since I saw Romeo and Juliet, and then Titanic, I was like ‘that’s the man I need to marry, and I need to marry him now.”

However Cassidy said she respects him more now she has met him.

She said: ‘He’s a wonderful actor. I respect him for his work and not necessarily just for his good looks – although he still looks really good. He’s wonderful.’

Katie Cassidy On HELP Malawi

Katie Cassidy dropped by our studios last week and gave us all the scoop on her new movie Monte Carlo, which opens on Friday.

Besides being a busy actress, Katie also is involved with a great charity called HELP Malawi. The organization is dedicated to sustainable primary education in impoverished African regions. They believe it is every child’s birthright to receive hope for a better future, education to grow, unconditional love, and protection from disease and illness.

Katie went to Africa about 2 years ago with the charity and shared with us, “going there, I didn’t necessarily know what my experience was going to be like. It doesn’t really hit you until you show up and I showed up at this school and these kids literally just come rushing towards you. They’re so happy to see other people. They’re so beautiful and they really want to learn and they’re really determined.”

Besides helping out over in Africa, Katie has also designed a special necklace for the organization’s “What Love Means” collection. The necklace is available in 14K gold and 14K gold plate and 100% of the proceeds go towards helping the kids. You can purchase the necklace here.

Although Katie Cassidy may be the offspring of a Partridge, she has worked hard for her reputation and is finding a niche of her own. From playing lead character Ella Simms on the short-lived Melrose Place, to a regular guest-starring role on Gossip Girl this season as Juliet Sharp, Cassidy has made herself known as one of Hollywood’s young, rising actresses. Cassidy’s been mostly noticed for her more outgoing characters (Ella and Juliet), but she believes in being in more challenging roles for the sake of improving as an actress. Next month, Cassidy will star alongside Selena Gomez and Leighton Meester in Monte Carlo, which leads the girls to Paris on a vacation—and beyond, due to a fortunate case of mistaken identity. We caught up with Cassidy discusses hair color, acting classes (where she still brushes up on her talent), and the challenges on the road to success.

ILANA KAPLAN: Why did you choose to take on a role in Monte Carlo?
KATIE CASSIDY: Emma was just so much fun. I really liked the script. She’s very full of life. I think she has just a big appetite for life in general. I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie yet, but if you have, I’m constantly eating in it. She wants to do everything. She wants to see everything… the glitz and the glamour. She thinks it’s going to be so amazing. It’s also a nice, cute coming-of-age. They go away to Europe and they go on these escapades and these adventures. They kind of come full circle, and realize, well, Emma does, that home is where she belongs.

KAPLAN: A lot of your characters have outgoing personalities. Are you more drawn to these types of roles?
CASSIDY: I think it just depends on the actor. I think it’s what I bring to it, which can be a good thing or maybe not such a good thing, depending on who the director is. For me, I just like to be as fun as possible, but I do like to bring a lot to a character. Given the script or the show, I know my boundaries, limits, and how far I can go with it. As far as me choosing these characters that have a lot of personality, I don’t necessarily think it’s intentional. I just think that I try and come up with a backstory of who they are, depending on the script or how rounded these characters are, and just go from there.
