Laurel (Katie Cassidy) has never seen her father like this.
A key dramatic point in season three of Arrow has been the team not telling Laurel’s father Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) that his other daughter Sara (Caity Lotz) had been murdered. They feared it would be too much for his weak heart and that the shock would kill him. Things took a twisted turn when Laurel donned her sister’s superhero identity, and even impersonated her, further leading Detective Lance to believe Sara was alive.
Detective Lance now knows the truth and confronted Laurel in the previous episode.
In a clip from Wednesday’s episode, Laurel begs her father to blow up at her and show his anger — but he refuses.
“Laurel Lance, always trying to save the world. You can’t save this. You don’t know how hard I’ve tried to forgive you for lying to me the way you did?” says Detective Lance. “You’re my daughter. I’ll always love you, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to forgive you.”
The rift between Laurel and her father has big implications for the show. At this point, Detective Lance has put off attempting to hunt the vigilante (Stephen Amell). But that might change, because he knows the hood knew about the Sara lie.
“His identity could be more of an interest to him than before. He hasn’t worried about who the Arrow was while he thought the guy was doing good,” Blackthorne told The Hollywood Reporter last month. “Their relationship will change, and Lance is forced into situations he wouldn’t be expected to be forced into.”
