Trivia & Facts
• Film debut of Tessa Thompson, Katie Cassidy, Madeline Carroll, and Dianna Agron.
• Although the stranger is played by Scottish-born actor Tommy Flanagan, the phone-call voice is actually Lance Henriksen’s. Henriksen fit the voice, whereas Flanagan fit the stranger’s build.
• There were at least five different versions of the peach/coral-colored t-shirt Jill wears throughout the movie; a special “waterproof wet-look” version was made for her to wear through her scenes with water.
• Though the film is billed as a remake of the same-named film When a Stranger Calls (1979), it’s actually only a remake of the first 20 minutes of it–the ones that made it a cult classic.
• The front of the Mandrakis house was built at an unused reservoir; the interior was in a studio.
• Camilla Belle did most of her own stunts, only using a double if absolutely necessary. As a result, she suffered a fair amount of injuries during the shoot.
• To promote the film, AOL Instant Messenger ran ads beckoning users to IM Jill020306. When messaged, “Jill” (a Colloquis-style program) made small talk before panicking as she received calls from a stranger asking her to check the children. She then gave the user her phone number (a toll-free 877 number) and asked them to call her. When users called, they heard an ad for the movie. To coincide with the DVD release, a new screen name appeared, Jill051606, to tie in with the DVD release date on May 16, 2006. It didn’t involve calling her; instead she directed the user to a video security system on the official DVD site where the shadow of the stranger passes by frequently.
• Camilla Belle had to do two months of weight-training and learning how to run to prepare for the role of Jill.
• Camilla Belle almost turned down the role of Jill because she personally dislikes horror films and never wanted to star in one. When Simon West convinced her that he was going for a more psychological thriller, she agreed to do the movie. She had to turn down a role in another horror remake, Black Christmas (2006), due to commitments to this film.
• The entire film was shot in chronological order.

Goofs
• When Jill’s friend leaves the Mandrakis’ house after sneaking in through the garage, Jill sets the alarm; later she opens and closes the door repeatedly without triggering the alarm.
• When Tiffany is in her car trying to leave the house, the clock in it reads 1:18. It’s just after 10 when Jill gets the call that the sinister calls are coming from inside the house.
• When escaping, Tiffany gets into a Toyota Matrix, but when she goes to lock the doors, the locks are not the Toyota make.
• While in the pond under the walking bridge, Jill’s bangs go from pushed to the side to down in her eyes, to pushed to the side with no obvious reason for the movement.
• When Tiffany is in her car trying to leave the house, the clock in it reads 1:18. It’s just after 10 when Jill gets the call that the sinister calls are coming from inside the house.
• Jill hears a noise downstairs and quickly takes off the gold necklace she was wearing before investigating. She also put on Mrs. Mandrakis’ rings when she went into her bedroom in addition to the necklace, but she doesn’t remove them before heading downstairs, and they’re gone when the scene cuts to her in the living room.
