Cassidy began her position with a week-long trip to Malawi, Africa on November 15, 2009 as part of the WHAT LOVE MEANS campaign, where she worked on projects to help ease the challenges and hardships of the lives of Malawi children. Putting her expertise to use, Cassidy taught children drama and other subjects, as well as helped children make jewelry to sell and food to eat as well as toured the community hospital. In an effort to provide supplemental educational resources and a quiet place to study for the children of Malawi, H.E.L.P. aimed to construct a library in 2010. There are no libraries or educational centers within a five-hour drive of the area villages H.E.L.P. focuses on. Without the library and the Nanthomba Primary School, area villagers would not have access to books to increase their literacy levels or provide educational enrichment. Through The Light Group’s donation to Katie Cassidy on behalf of H.E.L.P. the library will now have the funds that are needed for construction and to filled with literature for the children of the area villages. In order to construct the library $20,000 was needed $5,000 which had been raised this year with $15,000 needed to fully complete the project. The Light Group’s generous donation of $15,000 will now make H.E.L.P.’s dream of building the children’s library a reality. H.E.L.P. is a non-profit organization dedicated to positively impacting orphaned children and young adults by bringing Hope, Education, Love and Protection to these people. Current and future projects include building and operating the Nanthomba Primary School, partnering with the Malawian Ministry of Health to construct a rural healthcare clinic that will provide primary medical care to the population of Malawi and creating a solar panel system to be environmentally efficient. The Light Group is one of the United States’ leading hospitality development and management companies, renowned for shaping the nightlife landscape on the Las Vegas Strip. Founded by Andrew Sasson and Andy Masi and recently partnered with Dubai-based Zabeel Investments, the company manages and operates 12 food and beverage venues within the AAA Five Diamond Bellagio Resort & Casino, The Mirage Hotel & Casino, Monte Carlo Resort & Casino and Treasure Island Hotel and Casino. The Light Group’s portfolio has now expanded in December 2009 to include five new venues at ARIA Resort & Casino at CityCenter: HAZE Nightclub, The Deuce Lounge, The GOLD Lounge (in partnership with Cirque du Soleil), Liquid Pool Lounge and Union Restaurant & Lounge.
