Arrow’s Katie Cassidy Candidly Reflects on Final Season’s Highs and Lows, Teases Laurel Secrets to Be Revealed

Written by owner on April 24 2020

TV Line: As Katie Cassidy awaits word on whether Green Arrow and the Canaries will suit up for The CW, she has an abundance of memories from Arrow‘s farewell run to look back on — and with only a few regrets.

With Arrow: The Eighth and Final Season set to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, April 28, TVLine seized the opportunity to catch up with the original cast member and revisit Season 8’s highs and lows, including her directorial debut and loads of deja vu. Cassidy also opens up about how the original Laurel’s tragic Season 4 death helped shape the woman she is today.

TVLINE | Ever since Black Siren started spending time in our Star City, the fans were clamoring for some sort of redemption arc. What was important to you about the two-season journey that followed for the character?
Just that her story, in terms of her character, be told and looked at in a way as though it were a separate identity, starting as her doppelgänger. Playing Black Siren, I wanted her to get a sense of depth. I wanted it to feel like she lived a different life, and that actually came down to the writers and myself doing the character backstory, trying to make her as complex and whole as possible. I wanted to have a chance to tell her story of where she came from — and I think we’re still exploring that. That’s what’s cool about this potential spinoff, Green Arrow and the Canaries; we still don’t know the story of how Black Siren, on Earth-Two as her redeemed self, learned what it’s like to be a hero. What has she gone through as we pick up with this pilot in 2040? There is still a lot of story to be told.

Arrow “8×10 – Fadeout” HD Screen Captures

Written by owner on April 04 2020

And here it is after 8 years the last episode of the whirlwind of a show 8×10 – Fadeout aired in January, I still remember when the pilot aired I was of work for the week and got up so early to get my copy of it from that first episode Laurel and Katie have been through so much on the show, with her being all “I will save the world and seeing the best in people” in season 1, to hitting the bottom of the bottom but getting up at the end in season 2, to becoming at last The Black Canary and a hero in season 3, to the writers being the biggest idiots in the world and killing her of in season 4 and just about killing the show with her if the rating was any thing to go by, The Flash season 2 saving the day with bring in evil Earth 2 Laurel a.k.a Black Siren, Evil Laurel making her way over to Arrow in season 5, getting the big one of the big bad for the first part of the season before stating to go good in the last part of season 6, Trying to still be Earth 1 Laurel and be good over being who she was and in the end becoming the new Black Canary and heading back to Earth 2 in season 7, And last having her Earth destroyed coming over to Earth 1 and helping Oliver to save the world and going to the future to help his daughter do the same in season 8. They did cover a lot of ground with her over the 8 years and we had some amazing up’s and just why the hell did you do that down’s but it was a amazing run of all the cast and crew. So thank you Arrow for all you have done and all you started. Now the episode was for me a let down for Laurel and again became the Felicity show with Katie only being here or there in it, she did get two good little parts one with Quentin asking why she was still here and not his Laurel and the other with Tommy. But as Caity and Katrina were with her in the last part I would have loved to see them all have a little talk but no. Here is hoping we will still have the spin off. HD Screen captures are up in the gallery.
